Dear CCoET Associate:

IT’S DUES TIME, AGAIN.

But because of the difficult economic times so many people are going through, instead of asking for $25 per household this year, we are asking for $15 per household, or whatever amount you can afford this year.

We on the executive committee continue to work on your behalf.  We continue to monitor township, school board, planning commission and zoning meetings.  We meet regularly to discuss issues affecting residents’ lives, and we continue to speak out at public meetings and in letters to the editor of the Reading Eagle.

Most recently,

·         CCoET spoke out against the school board again planning to increase our property taxes.

·         We spoke out about the school board’s outrageous statement in the Eagle regarding their tax increase that said “The rules force districts to go for the maximum increase allowed and reduce services."  In one of our response letters to the editor, we called the school board statement “hogwash,” saying board members were not good stewards of our money and that if they can’t do a more efficient job, they should step aside so more competent people can do it right.

·         We spoke out against the decisions by the school board to spend $300,000 to build an amphitheater as part of the new elementary school, and $5.9 million to buy the Exeter Ridge Corporate Center for a new administration building.  We called these decisions shameful and irresponsible in light of the financial meltdown affecting so many residents.

·         CCoET contacted the township on behalf of residents having issues about snow removal.

·         We spoke out and brought change to an Exeter township group-home zoning ordinance that planned to allow group homes every 500 feet, telling township supervisors and their attorney that we feel the ordinance should be changed to only allow such homes a minimum of one-half mile from one another.  They agreed to take our suggestion under consideration.

·         We continue to speak out against, and monitor, the ongoing environmental, sewer and water violations perpetrated by the Mehadrin Kosher Poultry Plant, encouraging the township to ensure that Mehadrin meets environmental standards set by the township, and pays its delinquent sewage bills like everyone else.

·         CCoET organized and presented another candidates forum to help residents make informed decisions about those running for supervisor and school board.

We appreciate your loyal membership and thank you for whatever you can afford this year.

Thank you,

CCoET Executive Committee
